Catholic Charities Long-Term Recovery Office

It has been three years since hurricane Katrina slammed onto the Gulf Coast. Immediately after the storm your donations began to pout into the state to help those in need. We thank you for your generosity. Catholic Charities immediately began to help with the short-term needs of those affected. We have since moved into the long-term recovery efforts. We have used your generous donations to help find housing as well as help to rebuild houses that were destroyed, to purchase supplies and provide furniture. We are working hard to help people get back on their feet.  Your donations will help Catholic Charities continue to purchase these much needed supplies to re-hab homes.

We ask that you continue to keep those affected by the hurricane in your prayers. Many people are struggling to stay adrift as they worry about their credit and fiscal responsibilities. The rebuilding process is slow and sometimes seems as if no progress is being made. So many people, including children, are beginning to display mental health issues. The suicide rate has increased, children are struggling in school, and we are seeing an increase in depression and alcohol abuse. Catholic Charities has a counseling program as well as case management to help people get through this crisis. We will be here for them as long as they need us. Our mission is to Provide Help and Create Hope for those affected by this devastating storm.

In the midst of all this devastation evacuees are finding rays of hope and light…

Conservatively, we estimate that 2.3% of the MS population has offered 1961 volunteers who have contributed at least 136,100 volunteer housrs.
