This service strives to inform low and moderate income clients of the available resources which will help them to develop and maintain economic self-sufficiency.
It assists in the following areas:
- Information / Referrals
- Advocacy
- VITA (volunteer income tax assistance)
- Family Support
- Immigrant Rapid Response Team (educational, referral to resources, advocacy, support, leadership development)
- translations (Spanish or English)
Service Area: 20 counties in Northeast Mississippi with particular emphasis with the rural poor.
Family Life Center
The Family Life Center was opened in Vardaman in January 2005. It was established to identify, articulate and serve the needs of this rural area, with a special focus on the growing Hispanic community there.
At the present time the center offers general social service, Spanish and English classes and is developing a Hispanic women’s group.

Vita Program
Under the sponsorship of the IRS, the Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance (VITA) Program offers free assistance to the low-income working poor
with their tax returns. During the 2005
tax season the Northeast Office coordinated three VITA sites: Aberdeen,
Eupora and Houston. This program also offers assistance to
immigrants in obtaining an ITIN required for filing a tax return.
