Free Legal Guardianship Clinic

A beacon of support for grandparents and other family members navigating the complexities of securing special general guardianship or uncontested custody agreements, a pivotal free legal clinic was convened on July 19th, 2022. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between the Mississippi Access to Justice Commission, led by Co-Chairman Roger Wilder, and Catholic Charities, with the invaluable expertise and coordination of LaQuita Brown, the Kinship Navigator Program Coordinator.

The legal clinic stands as a testament to the commitment of these organizations in ensuring that families facing unique legal challenges have access to the resources and guidance they need. Grandparents and family members often find themselves in intricate legal situations, seeking to establish guardianship or custody arrangements that are both legally sound and in the best interests of the children involved.

Roger Wilder, Co-Chairman of the Mississippi Access to Justice Commission, emphasized the significance of this initiative in providing a lifeline to families in need. By offering free legal assistance, the clinic addresses potential barriers that families might encounter in navigating the legal system.

LaQuita Brown, representing Catholic Charities Kinship Navigator Program, played a pivotal role in highlighting the importance of such clinics in supporting families. Her expertise in coordinating resources and providing assistance to families grappling with legal intricacies contributes to the success of this initiative.

This collaborative effort not only reflects a commitment to legal access and justice but also underscores the importance of community partnerships in addressing the diverse needs of families. By providing a platform for legal experts to share their knowledge and offer guidance, the free legal clinic becomes a beacon of hope and empowerment for families seeking resolution and stability in their unique circumstances.
